FASTER

COFASTRANS is designed with efficiency at its core, combining indented berths with novel Ship to Shore Portal Cranes (SSPCs). These cranes have double the number hooks and significantly faster time-per-move compared to a conventional Super Post Panamax Crane.

More hooks, dual quayside access, and the ability to access two rows at any time means that containers are transferred over shorter distances and cranes are relocated less frequently.

As a result:

  • Ships can return to sea 24 hours earlier in COFASTRANS ports.
Four SSPCs can achieve a 14,000-container transfer on a 20,000 TEU vessel in 39 hours, compared to 63 hours for eight Post Panamax Cranes.
  • Ships spend less days in port.
If COFASTRANS was used in every port, the typical 20,000 TEU vessel would spend around 55 days in port per year, compared to the current 80 days, when operating on the Europe – Middle East – Asia shipping route.
  • More ships can pass through a COFASTRANS port.
For every 20 operations of a 3,000 container transfer on a 20,000 TEU vessel that a conventional berth can achieve with eight Super Post Panamax Cranes, COFASTRANS can carry out 30.
